Celebrate Bassholmen Day with Allmogebåtar Association

On July 11th, the association’s boats will sail and the old slipway will be brought back to life. A popular event with a festive atmosphere and many boats on the water.

The celebration takes place on the island of Bassholmen, an idyllic small island located in the middle of the beautiful Nordströmmarna, near Uddevalla, Orust and Lysekil. The island is a nature reserve with both hiking trails and barbecue areas. Several species of seabirds live here, and during the summer months cattle graze freely along the beautiful coastal meadows.

Bassholmen has a solid history from the herring period in the 18th century, when there was both a herring salting- and a traywork factory on the island. In the latter part of the 19th century, the boatyard owner, Jakob Johansson, had a stately manor house built, which we have used as a guesthouse in previous years.

Here you can also find the Allmogebåtars boat collection association and their museum, which is well worth a visit. Here you can learn more about the different boats, herring and freight shipping in Bohuslän and enjoy the smell of freshly tarred boat hulls.

To celebrate the day, you can go on a sailing trip in an old peasant boat.
